Yoga helped immensely in fight against Covid: Minister

Speaking to ETV Bharat on the occasion of International Yoga Day, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Ashwini Choubey threw light on the importance of Yoga.

New Delhi: Union Minister Ashwini Choubey on Monday said that Yoga has a number of benefits and it has helped immensely in the fight against Covid-19 as it keeps the body as well as mind healthy and also helps in improving the immunity system.

Speaking to ETV Bharat on the occasion of International Yoga Day 2021, the senior BJP leader also appealed to the people of the country to take a pledge to make Yoga a part of their lives. "Everyone should make Yoga a part of their lives as it helps to keep the body balanced and it is also proving to be the most beneficial against Covid," he added.

When asked whether is he was satisfied with the vaccination drive in the country, Choubey said the vaccine is the biggest weapon against Covid-19 and more than 26 crore people have been vaccinated in the country. "I appeal to the people to get vaccinated as the campaign will run on a large scale from today. From today, people above 18 years will also get the free vaccine and the online pre-registration will no longer be required," he added.

He further said that the central government from today will provide free vaccines to states for vaccination of all above the age of 18, as per the announcement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "As said by the Prime Minister, the Centre will buy 75 percent of jabs from the vaccine manufacturers, including 25 per cent of the state quota, and give it for free to state governments," he added.

The Minister also said that the government has taken all possible measures to tackle the possible third wave of Covid-19. He said that as many as 1,500 oxygen plants are being set up from PM Cares Fund, out of which 200 have been already been installed. "The number of beds is being increased in all hospitals. In view of the apprehension of its effect on children, preparations are being done on a war footing in government hospitals too. I urge people not to lower the guard and follow the Covid-19 appropriate behaviour," the minister added.
