Wistron company set to resume operations, calls back employees

Wistron company has called back its employees who vandalised the property on December 12 over pending salary. The company has laid certain rules and regulations for the employees to rejoin.

Kolar (Karnataka): Wistron, the Taiwanese firm has initiated the recruitment of temporary workers after it was ransacked by workers in the agitation against pending salary and overtime dues. After a month, the manufacturing unit of iPhone-7 and iPhone SE at Narasapura in Kolar district of Karnataka has initiated its restarting by paying the salaries.

The workers at Wistron’s manufacturing plant at Narasapura had vandalized the premises on December 12 over the delay in payment of salary and overtime wages. Wistron had initially estimated the damage at Rs 437.7 crore but later said the extent of the damage was about Rs 50 crore. Further, it had informed that the vandalism did not cause a significant impact, in the regulatory filing of the Taiwan Stock Exchange.

After the attack on the company, Wistron had filed a case against their labourers. After verification, the company has provided pending salary and overtime wages to employees. After all these developments, the company has decided to reopen it by recruiting the same employees, who vandalised the property. However, the company has laid down terms and conditions for workers before joining.

Permission from the police is mandatory for rejoining. The company is wary of worse responses and has taken adequate precautions.

Mandatory records to be carried for rejoining

1. Text message sent from the company should be shown at the entry

2. Identity proofs and two witnesses from the village where the employee lives

3. Aadhaar card, PAN card, certificates proving educational qualifications, and three photos

4. Name must be registered in the Seva Sindhu or the company app.

The employees should also get the signature and verification along with the No Objection Certificate from the police.

The recruitment process has started today and thousands of employees were seen in a queue in front of the police station to get signatures.
