Kolkata: An FIR has been lodged by West Bengal Police on Tuesday against several CBI officials including one who is heading the ongoing investigation into the coal scam case. Police sources said that the name of the CBI officer is Umesh Kumar.
A special team of the Diamond Harbour District Police has initiated the probe after the FIR was lodged at the Bishnupur Police Station in South 24 Parganas district. The development comes days after a resident of Diamond Harbour lodged a complaint at the local police station alleging that he and some other people were threatened by CBI officials during interrogation related to the coal scam investigation.

The complaint further stated that the CBI officials had been pressurising them to give statements as per their directions and also record the statements. Police sources said that the complainant named Umesh Kumar in his complaint. They further revealed that Kumar was a part of the CBI team that went to the residence of Trinamool Congress' national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee's South Kolkata residence to interrogate his wife Rujira Narula Banerjee in relation to the coal scam case.
Banerjee is the TMC MP from the Diamond Harbour constituency. Police sources said that an initial investigation has started and if required they will speak to the CBI officials including Umesh. ED is also conducting a parallel investigation into the coal scam case and has earlier interrogated Abhishek. (With Agency inputs)
