West Bengal: Bombs hurled at BJP MP Arjun Singh's residence, probe on

West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar condemned the attack on BJP MP Arjun Singh's residence at Bhatpara in North 24 Parganas district.

Bhatpara: Bombs were hurled at BJP MP Arjun Singh's residence at Bhatpara in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal in the wee hours of Wednesday. According to police, some miscreants hurled three bombs at the MP's house around 6.30 am. The iron gate of the house was damaged in the blast.

Police investigation revealed that around six people hurled bombs outside the MP's residence out of vengeance. "On enquiry, we found that around six people came out of Majdur Bhawan, thrashed a person and again entered the building. That person then came with some people and hurled bombs at the Bhawan Gate," Deputy Commissioner of Barrackpore Police Station, Shrihari Pandey was quoted as saying by ANI.

According to reports, Police have detained two persons so far and they are being interrogated in connection with the incident.

Security measures have been heightened in the area in the wake of the attack. A large number of security personnel have been deployed outside the residence of the Barrackpore MP.

West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar condemned the attack on the BJP MP's house and demanded prompt action from the West Bengal police. He also said that wanton violence in the state shows no sign of abating. Taking to Twitter, Dhankar said "Wanton violence in WB shows no sign of abating. Bomb explosions this morning outside residence of Member Parliament @ArjunSinghWB is worrisome on law and order. Expect prompt action @WBPolice. As regards his security the issue has been earlier been flagged @MamataOfficial."

It is to be noted that by-elections to three assembly constituencies in West Bengal are scheduled to be held on September 30 and counting of votes on October 3.
