Kolkata: The Kolkata Police STF has seized a whopping 3,600 kg of drugs worth Rs 30 crores on Saturday in Kolkata. Police sources said that three persons - identified as Sultan Ahmed, Md Kalim and Firoz Alam - have been arrested after the drugs were seized from a godown.
They further revealed the drug has been identified as Poppy Straw, a type of opium. Sources, meanwhile, stated that the narcotic crime has spread to Jharkhand as well.
An incident earlier this month saw one Nausad Ansari, hailing from Jharkhand, being arrested by the police from an area near AJC Bose Road in the city. A total of 531 kg of poppy straw was recovered from Ansari at the time. Upon interrogation, it was learnt that the substance was imported from Jharkhand.
During interrogation, the accused admitted to being tasked with delivering the packages to a warehouse located in the Gulshan colony area of Anandpur Police Station on the southern fringes of the city. STF officials raided the warehouse, subsequently, late on Friday night, securing the huge quantity of drugs.
