1. Will not be candidate for presidential election, says Sharad Pawar

NCP chief Sharad Pawar has ruled out being an opposition candidate for the presidential elections next year amid speculations in sections of the media about such a possibility. Election strategist Prashant Kishor's meeting with Sharad Pawar last month followed by his meeting with Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra earlier this week had led to such speculation in sections of media.

2. Sonia Gandhi chairs meet to prepare agenda for the upcoming Monsoon Session

Congress President Sonia Gandhi, on Wednesday, chaired a meeting of the party's Parliamentary Strategy Group to formulate a strategy to corner the Government on various issues in the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament. The meeting was being held virtually in which former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Congress' former President Rahul Gandhi and other leaders including AK Antony, KC Venugopal, Mallikarjun Kharge, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary, Jairam Ramesh, Manickam Tagore and others also took part.

3. RBI bars Mastercard from acquiring new customers in India from July 22

The Reserve Bank on Wednesday barred Mastercard Asia Pacific from onboarding new credit, debit and prepaid card customers with effect from July 22 as it failed to comply with data storage norms. The supervisory action will not impact existing customers of Mastercard, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said. Taking action against Mastercard, RBI said, 'notwithstanding lapse of considerable time and adequate opportunities being given, the entity has been found to be non-compliant with the directions on Storage of Payment System Data'.

4. Another drone spotted near Jammu Air Force Station

Days after terrorists used armed drones to attack the Air Force Station (AIF) in Jammu, another drone was spotted in the same area in the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.

5. Health Secretary asks NE states to increase tracking and testing of Covid cases

The Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhusan on Wednesday asked all Northeastern states to speed up testing and tracking of Covid cases, in a bid to contain the spread of infection. Bhushan sent a letter to all health secretaries of eight northeastern states asking them to implement strict restrictions where ever necessary.

Congress is working on a formula for appointing a Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief along with two working Presidents, sources say. While Sidhu is among the front runners for this post, Congress is also looking to make a balance in terms of caste and community in view of the upcoming Assembly polls.

Nana Patole, the Maharashtra Congress chief on Wednesday while speaking to a  regional news channel termed the Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar as the 'remote control' of the Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government.
