India must aspire to become Vishwa Guru once again: M Venkaiah Naidu

Commending the New Education Policy (NEP), the vice president said that the NEP 2020 aims to overhaul the education system and create a new module that will meet the requirements of 21st-century education while building upon India’s traditions and value systems.

Hyderabad: Vice president Venkaiah Naidu, on Sunday, wished all the teachers on the occasion of Teachers' day saying that teachers play a key role in nation development. Recalling his teachers, the vice president said that everyone should remember their teachers who guided them in their life journey.

Alluding to ancient India, the vice president said that India was an acclaimed centre of learning. He said that it was time for India to again become "Vishwaguru" and emerge as the hub of knowledge and innovation. He said that we should not only strive to nurture but seek to preserve our rich cultural heritage and legacy for posterity.

Remembering the former president of India, Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on Teachers' day, Naidu said that Radhakrishanan dedicated a good part of his life to the cause of education. "The highest tributes we can pay to this great son of India is to follow the path shown by him," he added.

"Each one of us, owes, in substantial measure, his or her career choices in life to mentoring and guidance by our teachers. As I recall the contribution of the many teachers and mentors who shaped the course of my educational and political career, I bow my head to pay respectful homage to them," Naidu said.

"I am sure, the New Education Policy will help in fostering an appropriate ecosystem where both the teachers and students will realize their full potential and contribute to the advancement of humanity in all spheres," he said.
