Punjab MP blames minister for 'inconclusive' farmer talks

Congress MP from Ludhiana Ravneet Singh Bittu said Union Minister for Industries and Railways, Piyush Goyal's presence in the talks between farmers and the government will leave the discussions inconclusive.

New Delhi: Launching a stinging attack on Union Minister Piyush Goyal, Congress MP from Ludhiana, Ravneet Singh Bittu, said as long as Minister Goyal is present in the discussions between the government and farmer, talks will remain 'inconclusive'.

Speaking to the media during a protest sit-in by Congress' MPs against centre's recent farm laws, Bittu alleged Goyal is 'closely associated' with billionaire industrialists 'Ambanis' and 'Adanis'.

The Congress lawmakers called for a special session of parliament to discuss and repeal the contested farm laws.

KTS Tulsi from Chhattisgarh, Deependra Singh Hooda from Haryana, Dr Amar Singh, Preneet Kaur, Manish Tiwar, Gurjeet Singh Aujla from Punjab protested and raised slogans against the union government and demanded to call the winter session of parliament as soon as possible and repeal farm acts.

Admitting the farmers' protest is an 'internal matter', Preneet Kaur MP said the government should resolve it as soon as possible. Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the United Nation recently issued statements on farmers protest in India, much to the displeasure of Indian government.

The Indian diaspora in the US, Canada, UK and Australia has also been staging protests against the farm acts.

Parliament had passed the Farmers' and Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill 2020 and Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill 2020, Essential commodities Bill amid protest by opposition parties in Monsoon session.
