Hyderabad: The Indian Air Force on Tuesday commemorated the 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' with a 75-aircraft Elephant Walk event. The event was held to celebrate the 75 years of India's Independence.

The IAF conducted an 'Elephant Walk' with 'Gusts of Rafales,' 'Prowl of Jaguars'.

An elephant walk is a term used by the United States Air Force for the taxiing of military aircraft right before takeoff when they are in close formation. Generally, it takes place right before a minimum interval takeoff. The advantages of an elephant walk include the ability to demonstrate the capability of the units as well as teamwork. It is frequently used to train squadrons for wartime operations and pilots for the mass launch of fully armed aircraft.

The Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is an intensive, country-wide campaign that will focus on citizen participation, to be converted into a 'Janandolan', where small changes, at the local level, will add up to significant national gains. The Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations for 75 years of independence from British rule were initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Earlier on August 15, the Indian Air Force celebrated India's 75th anniversary of independence with a tri-services skydiving demonstration featuring 75 skydivers.
