Last day, rumours circulated that he would meet Shah. West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Sunday met Ganguly to discuss various issues.

Earlier, in October 2019, Ganguly met Shah leading to speculations of his candidature in West Bengal 2021 Assembly polls, according to reports.

He had rejected rumours that his ties with BJP would benefit him with presidentship of BCCI. Reports suggested that Amit Shah's son Jay Shah also reinforced that the party had no influence over BCCI presidentship.

Jay Shah is the secretary of BCCI, while, BJP leader Anurag Thakur's brother Arun Dhumal is the treasurer.

It should also be noted, in 2019, West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh had said that if Ganguly joins politics, it would lead to the prosperity of the party. He also added that Gautam Gambir had joined BJP and the party welcomes everybody, reports said.
