Panaji: A Goa court grants 10-days custody of Sudhir Sagwan and Sukhwinder Singh who were arrested in connection with the death of Haryana BJP leader Sonali Phogat Goa, based on an application filed by the Goa Police for further investigation. The popular TikTok star who hailed from Haryana had died after being force fed a spiked drink by the duo.

The accused duo- Sudhir Sagwan and Sukhwinder Singh- were produced before the court in Mapusa town by Anjuna police on Saturday. A senior officer said the court remanded the duo in police custody for ten days. Sagwan and Singh had accompanied Phogat to Goa on August 22. Phogat, 42, was brought dead to St Anthony Hospital at Anjuna in North Goa district on August 23 morning from her hotel.

The police on Friday said Sagwan and Singh allegedly mixed some "obnoxious substance" in water and forced Phogat to drink it while partying at Curlies restaurant on the intervening night of August 22 and 23, adding they have been charged with murder. The motive behind the alleged murder of Phogat could be "economic interest", a senior police officer had said.

"Drug peddler who had supplied drugs (to accused) has been arrested. The owner of the shack where drugs were found has been arrested too. The investigation is going on well. Multiple teams are working. We will send one team to Haryana too," said Jaspal Singh, Director General of Police. One team of police will be sent to Haryana for further investigation.

DGP Singh further told ANI, "We will send one team to Haryana to verify some allegations and suspicions levelled by the family because those doubts would also have bearing on the investigation. As per the briefing by the Investigating Officer, Goa Police's investigation is going in the correct direction." Goa police have added one more FIR against the drug peddler and owner of Curlies under the section of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
