New Delhi: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Friday announced that it would move an adjournment motion in the forthcoming Monsoon Session of the Parliament demanding that the three agricultural laws be repealed. It also said that the party is also seeking unity from the Opposition in this adjournment motion. Speaking to ETV Bharat over this, SAD's Rajya Sabha member Naresh Gujral said that the party has already taken a few regional parties into the confidence and they would be supporting it. He also said that the SAD would continue to raise its voice for the farmers till all their grievances are not resolved.
"They have not approached Congress yet but some of the regional parties have promised to extend their support. We are in the process of contacting some more parties too and would try to gather maximum support for the motion. There could not be a better place than the Parliament to raise farmers' issues. That is why we have planned to move an adjournment motion," he said.
On being asked, Will SAD return back to the NDA fold if their demands are accepted by the central government, Gujral said that the party had decided to withdraw from the alliance on the basis of issues and it would continue its fight against the central government till the problems of farmers are not resolved. Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Kisan Union has also said that as many as 200 farmers would protest outside Parliament during the Monsoon Session demanding repeal of the three contentious farm laws.
It is worth mentioning here that the farmers have been protesting under the aegis of an umbrella organisation, the Sanyukta Kisan Morcha, since November 2020, seeking the withdrawal of the Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, Farmers' (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020. They have also been demanding a new law to guarantee a minimum support price for crops. However, the Centre has described the laws as pro-farmer.
