Chandigarh: The new list of ministers to be inducted in Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi’s Cabinet will see the dropping of five ministers who belonged to former chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh’s cabinet. But before anything materalises, the list prepared — in consonance with Rahul Gandhi — awaits approval by the AICC chief Sonia Gandhi. Once okayed by the high command, the oath-taking will take place on Sunday evening, party sources say.
In the meeting on Friday, where Congress leaders KC Venugopal, Harish Rawat, Harish Chaudhary and Ajay Maken were also present, the party has by and large agreed on dropping former Health Minister Balbir Sidhu, Revenue Minister Gurpreet Singh Kangar, Industries Minister Sunder Sham Arora, Social Welfare Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot and Sports Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi.
Also, the Congress think tank reached a consensus on re-inducting former Irrigation Minister Rana Gurjit Singh, who resigned from Amarinder’s Cabinet after an alleged scam in the allotment of sand mines to his ex-employees.
Others who were included in the list are PPCC general secretary in-charge Pargat Singh, PPCC working president, Kuljit Nagra and Gidderbaha MLA Amrinder Singh Raja Warring — from PPCC chief Navjot Singh Sidhu’s camp.
Other new faces included Dr Raj Kumar Verka, PPCC working president Sangat Singh Gilzian and Gurkirat Kotli.
