Pulwama: Cop killed, CRPF man injured in militant attack; ambush caught on CCTV

An official said that militants opened fire on a joint team of security forces in Pingelan Pulwama in which a policeman and CRPF personnel got injured. The cop succumbed at the hospital.

Srinagar (J&K): A policeman was killed while a CRPF personnel was injured in a militant attack in Pingelan area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Sunday. An official said that militants opened fire on a joint team of security forces in Pingelan Pulwama in which a policeman and CRPF personnel got injured. CCTV footage of the area shows two people attacking the forces ambush and managing to slip away from the spot.

Both the injured personnel were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment, where the policeman succumbed to his injuries. The CRPF personnel is being treated, the official said. "Terrorists fired upon joint naka party of CRPF & Police at Pinglana, Pulwama. In this terror attack, 01 Police personnel got martyred & 01 CRPF personnel got injured. Reinforcement sent. The area is being cordoned. Further details shall follow," Kashmir Police Zone tweeted.

After the terrorist attack, reinforcements were sent in and the area was cordoned off to nab the attackers. The attack comes a day before Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to arrive on a three-day visit to J&K on Monday. The attack took place shortly after an encounter in the nearby Shopian district in which one Lashkar militant was killed on Sunday.

The gunfight happened in Baskuchan village of Shopian district. The slain militant was identified as Naseer Ahmad Bhat. Kashmir police zone Additional Director General Vijay Kumar said that so far this year, 155 militants were killed in different encounters with 14 of them being neutralised in 10 gunfights in September alone.
