Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh): Renowned poet Munawwar Rana's remarks that 'Taliban are not terrorists and that they just aggressive' has stoked a huge controversy. Speaking to ETV Bharat, Rana made it clear that he doesn't support the outfit, but that they have not done anything wrong by taking control of Afghanistan.
On New Delhi's reaction, Rana said India should be patient, and adopt a wait and watch approach, adding, he believes the Taliban has done nothing wrong by taking control over Afghanistan. Taliban have liberated the war-torn nation, he said.
"There are people who are wild in India than the Taliban. I do not support the Taliban, but India should be patient for now, adopt a wait and watch approach," the poet said.
"Taliban are not bad people, they can be trusted, it is because of the circumstances that they have become like this. They have been oppressed for 20 years. Afghanistan has always been friendly, and the people have shared close relations with India for thousands of years. During the time of Aurangzeb, Afghanistan was also a part of India. That is why the people of Afghanistan have a deep love for the people of Hindustan. Today in India the situation is such that around five crore people go to bed hungry."

Reacting to the statement of MP Shafiqur Rahman Burke, he said that, just as there is an age limit for jobs, there should be an age limit fixed for those doing politics. Supporting Burke, Rana said, "He is 91-year-old, if he has said something out of emotion, then there should not be so much uproar and action taken on him."
Earlier, Munawwar Rana landed in controversy after he said that if Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath returns to power next year, he would be forced to leave Uttar Pradesh.
