Previously, on Monday, the police officials said that they had their eyes on the suspect, a resident of Vellore's Odugathur area, and had inquired him. After investigation, it was confirmed that he was involved in the robbery.
Investigations have revealed that the burglar alarm in the store is defunct. It has 12 CCTV cameras installed inside the shop but none outside the premises.
Officials further revealed that the man came every night for 10 days and patiently drilled a hole in the back wall of the shop. Security guards, it has been said, were not aware of the hole.
The unidentified man back on December 15 stole about 16kg of gold, as well as diamond jewelry worth Rs. eight crores from the Jos Alukkas outlet.
The visuals show one of the robbers wearing a full-face animal mask, spray painting CCTV cameras inside the shop. Northern Regional Police Chief (IG) Santosh Kumar inspected the crime scene and investigated.
The police have urged store authorities to install and maintain the CCTV cameras in a proper manner.
