Kolkata/Hyderabad: Actress turn politician Nusrat Jahan breaks her silence on the ongoing controversy regarding the rumour of her pregnancy and relationship with her husband Nikhil Jain. The Bengali actress— who was elected as a Member of Parliament got married to her businessman beau Nikhil Jain in the picturesque Turkish town of Bodrum in June 2019. Later, the couple had organised a lavish party that was attended by a large number of Bengali film personalities and political leaders including Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
In her Instagram stories, she had posted a close up hand-in-hand shot, and had captioned it: "Never will we let go... Can't thank you enough." Unfortunately, the promise seems 'null and void' as, after two years of marriage, the Basirhat MP issued a statement in which she termed the marriage as 'invalid'.
What's the controversy
The matter grabs media attention after it has been reported that the actress is pregnant while her husband claimed: "they have been separated for the last six months". Several media outlets also reported that the MP has been dating fellow actor-politician Yash Dasgupta, who was a BJP candidate in the 2021 election in Bengal. However, she opted to maintain silence over the media reports.

What says the Basirhat MP
In a statement, she said, "My marriage with Nikhil Jain was never valid as an interfaith marriage in India requires validation under the Special Marriage Act." She informed that the couple had chosen to tie the knot according to Turkish law. Since the marriage was performed according to Turkish law, it is invalid here. There is no question of divorce, she clarified.
Making serious allegations on her 'better half,' she said that the businessman has made bank transactions from her account without her consent.
"The one who claims to be 'rich' and 'been used by me' has been taking money from my account by accessing my bank accounts illegally and by illegitimate means at odd-hours of the night, even post-separation. I have already taken this up with the concerned banking authority and a police complaint shall be filed shortly", read the statement. She also alleged that her jewellery and other valuable assets given to her by her patents have been illegally held by Nikhil's parent.
Who is Nikhil Jain
Jain is a former student of MP Birla Foundation Higher Secondary School. After studying management at the University of Warwick, he worked as a consultant in a UK-based multi-national company. Later, he became an entrepreneur, with a thriving textile business.
