Speaking with ETV Bharat, Bhat's son thanked the neighbours and said that even though it is a Muslim-majority locality, he and his family members never felt isolated.
"I am grateful to the neighbours here. I am happy that we never left Kashmir. We have been living here for years and there is peace and brotherhood among us," he said.
The local Muslims shouldered Bhat's coffin and arranged wood for her cremation. Several locals visited her residence to express condolences.
