New Delhi: As the Monsoon Session entered the final week, Lok Sabha was adjourned till 12 pm and Rajya Sabha was adjourned till 2 pm amid ruckus by the Opposition.

Paying tribute to those who laid down their lives during India's independence struggle, Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu said we should work towards banishing poverty, illiteracy, casteism, inequality and criminality, thereby realise the dream of full freedom. August 9 marked the 79th anniversary of the Quit India Movement.

Naidu also appreciated India's performance in Tokyo Olympics. "Tokyo Olympics heralded resurgence, renaissance and national awakening in sports in our country by restoring the depleting confidence and self-esteem," he said.

Lauding Tokyo Olympics gold medal-winner Neeraj Chopra, Naidu said Chopra made our nation proud with his golden javelin throw. "The way he dominated the field right from the word go, never seen before, made our people rejoice as it was a statement of ‘we too can do it," he said.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla urged members to go back to their seats as MPs intensified sloganeering. Opposition MPs demanded a discussion on Pegasus snooping row and other issues.

Opposition parties have been pressing on the Pegasus snooping row, farm laws and Covid-19 crisis since the commencement of the Monsoon Session. Vociferous sessions kicked off after Union Minister of IT Ashwini Vaishnaw's statement that the media report on Pegasus row was an attempt to malign Indian democracy. The session commenced on July 19 and is scheduled to end on August 13.
