Srinagar: PDP president and former J&K chief minister Mehbooba Mufti's mother Gulshan Nazir today appeared before the Enforcement Directorate for questioning in an alleged money laundering case. Gulshan Nazir, who is in her 80s, had been summoned by ED twice earlier this year but she skipped to appear before the investigating agency. She was summoned on August 2 by the ED for the third time and finally appeared today.

In the summon notice, Assistant Director (ED) Sunil Kumar Meena mentioned that an investigation is being led under provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. "I consider the attendance of Gulshan Nazir necessary in connection with the said investigation," the notice read. However, the notice did not provide any further details of the case and how Gulshan Nazir is linked to it.

Earlier, Mehbooba Mufti and People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration had condemned the summons issued by the Enforcement Directorate.

"On the day PDP chose not to meet Delimitation Commission, ED sent a summon to my mother to appear in person for unknown charges. In its attempts to intimidate political opponents, the Government of India doesn't even spare senior citizens. Agencies like NIA (National Investigation Agency) and ED are now its tools to settle scores," Mehbooba Mufti had tweeted on July 6 when her mother was summoned by ED.

There has been no word from PDP or Mehbooba Mufti about the appearance of her mother before ED.
