Tension prevailed in Uttar Pradesh Meerut after five members of a family were found dead. According to police, the man committed suicide after killing his wife and three children over an internal dispute.

Meerut: Five members of a family were found dead in Uttar Pradesh's Parikshitgarh on Thursday. Police said that a 37-year-old man committed suicide after killing his three children and his wife, adding that a suicide note was found from the crime scene.

The deceased have been identified as Rashid (37), his wife Rihana, Affaan (10), Haider (7) and a four-year-old daughter Aayat. Reports have revealed that the couple had altercations and Rashid's first wife Shabana who had passed away eight years ago. Rihana and Rashid were often engaged in a fight as the latter had two kids from Shabana.

The police and the forensic team reached the incident spot and an investigation has been initiated.

Rashid's brother Aas Muhammad said, "Rashid was our neighbour and we used to stay nearby. On Thursday evening, he had a fight with Rihana after which he killed her and his kids. We suspected something fishy as Rashid's home was locked since afternoon. Locals informed the police and when we broke the door, we found them dead."

SSP Ajay Kumar Sahni said, "We received the information that Rashid's house was locked from 2 pm and locals called us when nobody came out of the house till evening. We jumped from the boundary wall and opened the gate. Rashid's wife and his three children were lying dead while he was found hanging. A suicide note was also found which states the reason behind the incident. The initial inquiry has revealed that the husband and wife were often engaged in a war of words."

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem and a case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
