At least 177 personnel have been rescued so far from the barge P305 which sunk after Cyclone Tauktae hit the Arabian Sea off the coast of Mumbai on Monday, the Defence Public Relations Officer (PRO) said on Tuesday. It also said that the aerial search commenced at first light with Indian Navy P8I on task. Severe cyclonic storm Tauktae that is hovering over Saurashtra in Gujarat would move north-northeastwards and weaken gradually into a cyclonic storm during next three hours, informed the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday.
"Severe cyclonic storm 'Tauktae' lay centered at 08:30 hrs IST of May 18 over Saurashtra, about 130 kilometers south-southwest of Surendranagar and 10 kilometers east of Amreli. It would move north-northeastwards and weaken gradually into a cyclonic storm during the next three hours," IMD tweeted.

Six Army team activated for rescue, relief operations in Diu
The Indian Army on Tuesday said that six rescue and relief teams have been activated for rescue and relief operations in Diu in the wake of Cyclone Tauktae. Six additional Army teams have also been staged forward to Junagarh to deal with aftereffects of the cyclone at other cyclone-hit places like Botad, Amreli and Bhavnagar. "These teams had travelled for 12 hours, braving cyclonic high-speed winds and rains to reach Diu," the Indian Army said.

ONGC: Measures to mitigate impact of cyclone Tauktae underway
The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) on Tuesday said that "all possible measures in coordination with ODAG (Offshore Defence Advisory Group) and MRCC Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre)" are being taken to ensure the safety of personnel and vessels in the aftermath of cyclone Tauktae.
After Tauktae hit the Arabian Sea off the coast of Mumbai in the early hours of Monday where ONGC's major production installations and drilling rigs are located many unfortunate incidences have occurred involving three construction barges of M/s Afcons working on a project of ONGC in Western Offshore fields in the Arabian Sea and one drilling rig of ONGC deployed for exploration purpose.

Cyclone Tauktae weakens after landfall in Gujarat
The India Meteorological Department on Tuesday said that the eye of cyclonic storm Tauktae, which had hit the Gujarat coast in Saurashtra has ended and the eye of Cyclone Tauktae is disorganizing.
As the Indian Navy and NDRF continue to remain vigilant and carry out rescue operations along the Western coast, the IMD tweeted, "The VSCS 'TAUKTAE' lay centred at 0430 HRS IST of 18TH MAY 2021 over SAURASHTRA, near LAT. 21.40°N AND LONG. 71.20°E, about 85 KM north-northeast of Diu and 20 KM south of AMRELI. The cyclone continues to show weakening trend. Eye is disorganising, wall cloud is weakening."
Following the effects of the cyclone, many parts of Northern India including Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan will witness rainfall.

Indian Coast Guard rescues 15 fishermen off Goa coast
The Indian Coast Guard Ship Samarth responded to a distress call and rescued 15 crew from a fishing boat named Milad, off Goa coast on Monday late night as a very severe cyclonic storm Tauktae with winds gusting up to 185 km per hour began making landfall on Gujarat's Saurashtra coast near Diu. "Indian Coast Guard Ship Samarth rescued 15 fishermen off Goa coast and towed the boat Milad to safety. Another Coast Guard Ship Samrat sailed out from Mumbai to attend to a distress call from a vessel off Mumbai with 137 personnel onboard", informed the ICG in a tweet.

Two barges with 410 persons onboard have gone adrift off the Mumbai coast as the cyclonic storm 'Tauktae' over the Arabian Sea intensified into a very severe cyclonic storm on Monday.
A total of 60 persons from Barge P305 have been rescued till 2300h on May 17, 42 by INS Kochi and 18 by offshore support vessel Energy Star in extremely challenging sea conditions.

New Delhi: As Cyclone Tauktae continues to impact several states on the Western Coast including Gujarat, damaging structures, electricity lines, and uprooting trees, the India Meteorological Department on Tuesday informed that the cyclone is continuing to show a weakening trend. "Extremely severe" Cyclone Tauktae unleashed devastating winds that reached speeds up to 190 kilometres per hour as the storm made landfall in Gujarat, damaging structures, electricity lines, and uprooting trees.
In a tweet by the meteorological department, it read, "The Cyclone continues to show weakening trend. The eye is disorganising, wall cloud is weakening." "The very Severe Cyclonic storm 'Tauktae' lay centred at 0230 HRS IST of 18TH MAY 2021 over SAURASHTRA, near LAT. 21.05°N AND LONG. 71.15°E, about 75 KM north-northeast of Diu and 30 KM south of AMRELI", tweets IMD.
"Very Severe Cyclonic Storm 'Tauktae' moved northwards with a speed of 15 KMPH during past 06 hours", read another tweet by the department.
Following this, several places near Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan are likely to witness rainfall in the next couple of hours. Hodal, Aurangabad, Meham, Bhiwani, Loharu, Bawal (Haryana), Bayana, Mehndipur, Mahwa, Dausa, Kotputli, Lachmanngarh, Rajgarh, Alwar, Nagaur, Nadbai (Rajasthan) and adjoining areas during the next 2 hours. In view of Cyclone Taukate, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani last night held a meeting with officials of the coastal districts of Valsad and Gir Somnath at the State Control Room in Gandhinagar.
Patients from a COVID care centre in Gujarat's Vadodara were shifted to hospitals, yesterday. Nodal Officer Sheetal Mistry said, "In view of IMD's warning for Cyclone Tauktae, we are shifting COVID-19 patients from various facilities to hospitals."
Also, the road between Gujarat's Somnath district and the Union Territory of Diu (Daman & Diu) which was blocked due to fallen trees, has been cleared by the Army personnel for movement of vehicles. NDRF team too cleared the road of fallen trees and branches in Dahisar area of Mumbai. 'Extremely' Severe Cyclonic Storm, Tauktae is now weakening into a 'Very' severe cyclonic storm, as per the India Meteorological Department on Tuesday.
A powerful cyclone has battered the country's west coast and made landfall in Gujarat on Monday night and the process is likely to continue for three hours, confirmed the India Meteorological Department (IMD) as authorities evacuated thousands of people. "Extremely severe" Cyclone Tauktae unleashed devastating winds that reached speeds up to 190 kilometres per hour as the storm made landfall in Gujarat, damaging structures, electricity lines, and uprooting trees.
In a tweet by the meteorological department, it read, "The Cyclone continues to show weakening trend. The eye is disorganising, wall cloud is weakening." "The very Severe Cyclonic storm 'Tauktae' lay centred at 0230 HRS IST of 18TH MAY 2021 over SAURASHTRA, near LAT. 21.05°N AND LONG. 71.15°E, about 75 KM north-northeast of Diu and 30 KM south of AMRELI", tweets IMD.
"Very Severe Cyclonic Storm 'Tauktae' moved northwards with a speed of 15 KMPH during past 06 hours", read another tweet by the department.
Following this, several places near Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan are likely to witness rainfall in the next couple of hours. Hodal, Aurangabad, Meham, Bhiwani, Loharu, Bawal (Haryana), Bayana, Mehndipur, Mahwa, Dausa, Kotputli, Lachmanngarh, Rajgarh, Alwar, Nagaur, Nadbai (Rajasthan) and adjoining areas during the next 2 hours. "18/05/2021: 03:35 IST; Light to moderate intensity rain would occur over isolated places of Firozabad, Hathras, Narora, Raya, Iglas, Aligarh, Atrauli, Kashganj, Mathura, Sahaswan, Etah, Nandgaon, Barsana, Jahangirabad, Khurja, Pahasu,Tundla, Agra, Jattari, Sikandra Rao, Jajau (U.P)", informed the meteorological department.
In view of Cyclone Taukate, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani last night held a meeting with officials of the coastal districts of Valsad and Gir Somnath at the State Control Room in Gandhinagar.
Patients from a COVID care centre in Gujarat's Vadodara were shifted to hospitals, yesterday. Nodal Officer Sheetal Mistry said, "In view of IMD's warning for Cyclone Tauktae, we are shifting COVID-19 patients from various facilities to hospitals."
Also, the road between Gujarat's Somnath district and the Union Territory of Diu (Daman & Diu) which was blocked due to fallen trees, has been cleared by the Army personnel for movement of vehicles.
