Ranchi: There is a ruckus going on in the Jharkhand's capital Ranchi over the issue of a Namaz room in the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly. In protest against the order issued by the Speaker of the Assembly, hundreds of BJP workers came out to gherao the assembly. The situation turned unruly as a clash between the Ranchi Police and the BJP workers turned volatile. To control the situation, Police resorted to lathi-charge and water cannons to disperse the BJP workers. In the melee, several BJP workers including, women workers, have suffered injuries.

Many BJP leaders like State president Deepak Prakash, former Chief Minister Raghuvar Das, MP Sanjay Seth, BJP Legislature Party leader Babulal Marandi are involved in the assembly gherao program. Jharkhand BJP has said that this order must be cancelled or else the protest will continue.

How the whole issue started?
On September 3, on the instructions of the Speaker, the Legislative Assembly issued a letter with the signature of Deputy Secretary Naveen Kumar. In this order, a room was allotted for Namaz. Due to this move, BJP is fiercely protesting and citing allegations on Hemant Soren government of following a policy of appeasement. BJP has also demanded a temple of Lord Hanuman within the assembly premises.
