India logs less than 20,000 daily COVID-19 cases after 201 days

The number of fresh COVID-19 cases in India was recorded at below 20,000 (18,795) after 201 days on Tuesday, as per the Union health Ministry.

Hyderabad: India reported 18,795 fresh COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hrs, as per the Union Health Ministry. It is after 201 days India is recording less than 20,000 daily Covid cases, it said. The active caseload stands at 2,92,206 while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 97.81 per cent.

The death toll climbed to 4,47,373 with 179 fresh fatalities, according to the data updated at 8 am.

Statistics showed Kerala recorded 11,699 cases and 58 deaths in the last 24 hours.

The cumulative COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country under the nationwide vaccination drive have exceeded 87.07 crore (87,07,08,636), said the provisional report till 7 am on Tuesday. For the fifth time, India on Monday administered one crore COVID-19 vaccine doses. The ministry said more than 84.70 crore vaccine doses were provided to States & UTs so far, and over 42.83 lakh doses (42,83,200) are in the pipeline. Over 4.75 crore balance and unutilized vaccine doses are still available with the States & UTs, it added.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 32,9,58,002 with 26,030 being discharged in the last 24 hours. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, a total of 56,57,30,031 samples were tested up to September 27, of which 13,21,780 samples were tested on Monday.
