New Delhi: India logged 15,823 new COVID-19 infections taking the country's total tally of cases to 3,40,01,743, according to the Union Health Ministry. The death toll climbed to 4,51,189 with 226 fresh fatalities, showed the data updated at 8 am on Wednesday. Kerala alone reported 7,823 cases and 106 deaths in the last 24 hours.
The recovery of 22,844 patients in the last 24 hours has increased the cumulative tally of recovered patients to 3,33,42,901, the ministry said. The national COVID-19 recovery rate has increased to 98.06 per cent, the highest since March 2020, the ministry said.
The active caseload stands at 2,07,653, the lowest in 214 days. The weekly positivity rate was recorded at 1.46 per cent. It has been less than three per cent for the last 110 days now. The daily positivity rate was recorded at 1.19 per cent, it said.

The Health Ministry said India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage crossed 96.43 crore doses. More than 8.43Cr (8,43,76,070) balance and unutilized COVID vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs to be administered, it said.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, a total of 58.63 crore samples were tested up to October 12, of which 13,25,399 samples were tested on Tuesday.
