Bishalgarh (Tripura): Tripura police on Friday arrested a Hindu outfit leader in connection with the abduction of a Muslim girl in the Bishalgarh area under Sepahijala district. According to the police, accused Sumon Sarkar who hails from Bishalgarh's Chandranagar allegedly abducted the minor girl from her residence at Charilam Uttarpara on July 24.
The girl's father lodged a kidnapping case with the Bishalgarh Women's Police Station on July 25. However, the girl's father alleged that Swarna Debbarma, the investigating officer, tried to hush up the case. Later, he moved the High Court of Tripura seeking justice. Following the intervention of the court, police made a substantial breakthrough in the case.

Agartala-based Hindu Yuva Bahini leader Tapan Debnath was arrested on Friday on charges of helping the accused flee. Police said Debnath admitted that he had given shelter to the accused at his sister's house. Earlier on Wednesday, two others were also arrested in connection with the incident.
