Bengaluru: Former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda on Wednesday said he and his wife Chennamma have tested positive for COVID-19.
"My wife Chennamma and I have tested positive for COVID- 19. We are self-isolating along with other family members," the 87-year-old JD(S) patriarch tweeted.
"I request all those who came in contact with us over the last few days to get themselves tested. I request party workers and well-wishers not to panic," he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Deve Gowda and enquired about his and his wife’s health.
PM tweeted, "Spoke to former PM Shri @H_D_Devegowda Ji and enquired about his and his wife’s health. Praying for their quick recovery."
Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa also wished Dewe Gowda and his wife speedy recovery. Karnataka health minister Dr K Sudhakar informed that he is in constant touch with the doctors treating Gowda.

Last year, a number of senior political figures in Karnataka, including Chief Minister Yediyurappa and former chief minister Siddaramiah had tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Karnataka is among the states where the second wave of COVID-19 has hit hard in recent days.
On Tuesday, Karnataka reported 2,975 new cases and 21 fatalities, taking its total caseload to 9,92,779 and the death toll to 12,541.
