Siddipet: Unwilling to be a burden on his sons who decided to take care of him on monthly basis, ninety-year-old Medaboya Venkataiah died allegedly after burning himself by setting stacks of palm leaves on fire, police sources said. The elderly was upset as he did not want to leave his hometown and go to live with his sons. Venkataiah's charred body was found at Ellammagutta in Potlapalli village on Thursday afternoon.
The tragic incident took place in Potlapalli in Siddipet district's Husnabad Mandal. Venkataiah had four sons and his wife had died some time back. His four acre of land was distributed among his sons, who work as agricultural laborers. Venkataiah received an old-age pension and lived with his elder son Kanakayya, who stayed in his village.
Five months back, a panchayat was held over his maintenance. It asked him to stay with each son for a month. Following which, he left for his second son's house in Nawab peta on Tuesday. On his way, he visited the house of a public representative and spent the night there. It was learnt that Ventakaiah told him that he did not want to leave his hometown and become a burden for his sons. Also, he said that it was very difficult for him to go from one house to another every month at this age.

On Wednesday morning, he left saying he was going to the house of his second son. But, he did not reach his son's house and on the next day, police found his charred body at Ellammagutta in Potlapalli village. Police said it appeared that he burnt himself to death by setting on fire a stack of palm tree leaves. ASI Manemma said investigations were on.
