Meerut: In a horrifying incident, a father sold his 18-year-old daughter in return for the money he borrowed from a local lender in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut.
According to the reports, the father of the victim had borrowed Rs 2 lakh from a local lender after he lost his job. In January 2020, when the lender visited the house for the money, the father showed incompetency to pay the loan. He then offered to hand over his daughter in order to get rid of the borrowed amount.
The matter came into limelight after the victim on Tuesday registered a complaint against her father and the moneylender with the Superintendent of Police (Crime).
The victim, in her statement, said that she managed to flee from the house of the moneylender and reached the house of her mother. Following which, the victim reached Partarpur police station but the police gave no heed to her complaint.
She also said that she was regularly raped by the accused moneylender and some others since they took her to their house.
Lastly, the police have lodged a case against the father and the moneylender and a search operation has been initiated to nab the absconders.
