New Delhi/Patna: At least 2,300 employees of the Eastern Railway zone and 1,500 Delhi police personnel were infected by the coronavirus.
This comes after a large number of daily wage earners working in various states returned to Bihar fearing lockdown. The exodus also led to a rise of infections among the railways' employees.
Public Relation Officer (PRO) of the Eastern Railway zone, Sanjay Kumar Prasad, said that the recent surge in the cases among employees was due to the rise in footfall of passengers at various railway stations in Bihar.
However, he affirmed that the operation will not be affected due to a sudden increase in infection among the employees. Notably, many of them have lost their lives while battling the deadly virus.
According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare's data, Bihar has reported 7,392 new COVID-19 cases and 56 deaths in the past 24 hours.
