Hyderabad: Setting off India on the path towards overcoming the coronavirus pandemic that has upended lives, the central government has announced vaccinating three crore frontline workers of the country on Saturday.
The Centre has placed orders to procure 1.1 crore doses of Covishield and 55 lakh doses of Covaxin, which is being produced by Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech.
While Covishield is priced at Rs 200 per dose, the arrangement with Bharat Biotech is such that it is charging Rs 295 per dose for 38.5 lakh doses and providing the rest 16.5 lakh doses free of cost. Hence, the cost of Covaxin is Rs 206 per dose.
Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Maharashtra, Bihar, Karnataka, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Andhra Pradesh and Haryana are the states which have said yes to the Covaxin.
Ten of these states have already received 20,000 doses of Covaxin, while Assam has so far got 12,000 doses.
Delhi, Andhra, Telangana, Punjab will use Covishield. Govt says vaccines were approved after they met the parameters. Some of the states like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Bihar, West Bengal announced free vaccines for all and Maharashtra govt. asked the central govt. To bear the sum of vaccines.
