As the coronavirus continues to creep across the globe, the US drugmaker Moderna Inc is likely to release first interim analysis data on late-stage trials of its COVID-19 vaccine candidate. Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that the number of daily COVID-19 tests would be increased to over 1 lakh.

Hyderabad: After Pfizer, another US drugmaker Moderna Inc is likely to release first interim analysis data on late-stage trials of its COVID-19 vaccine candidate.

Experts have said that Moderna's candidate, which uses a similar mRNA technology like Pfizer’s, will also likely prove to be highly effective.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 150 COVID-19 vaccines are presently in development, with around 44 candidates in clinical trials and 11 undergoing late-stage testing.

New Delhi: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday attended a meeting chaired by Union home minister Amit Shah over the rise in cases of the COVID-19 cases in Delhi.

Speaking to media after the meet, Kejriwal announced that the number of daily COVID-19 tests would be increased to over 1 lakh.

The Centre would provide 750 intensive care unit (ICU) beds at the Defence Research and Development (DRDO) Covid-19 hospital, Kejriwal further said.

The total number of cases reported so far has climbed to 4,85,405 in the national capital.

Mumbai: Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said that the places of religious worship across the state, which were shut since the COVID-19 lockdown in March, will reopen from Monday.

He said, "We can't forget that the demon coronavirus is still amongst us. Even though this demon is slowly falling silent now, we cannot be complacent. Citizens need to follow discipline."

Meanwhile, the state reported 2,544 new cases on Sunday. The spike in cases took the infection tally to 17.57 lakh, however, the active cases stand at 84,918.

Thiruvananthapuram: The hill shrine of Lord Ayyappa in Sabarimala opened on November 15 evening for the annual two-month-long Mandala-Makaravillakku season, adhering to strict COVID- 19 protocol.

Devotees would be allowed inside the temple only from November 16 morning, temple sources said.

Melshanti AK Sudheer Namboothiri opened the doors of the sanctum sanctorum and lit the lamps at 5 p.m. in the presence of Tantri Kandararu Rajeevaru, heralding the start of the 62-day long pilgrim season.

Bengaluru: With Karnataka seeing a drop in coronavirus cases since mid-October and more pandemic related restrictions being lifted, the state government has decided to simplify quarantine rules for international passengers arriving in the state.

Now, those returning from other countries to the state, including at Bengaluru, can seek exemption from mandatory home quarantine on furnishing a COVID-19 negative certificate.
