New Delhi: Soon after the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman attacked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, saying that he is becoming a "doomsday man" for India, the Opposition party hit out at her for indulging in "unparliamentary activities".
Earlier on Saturday, Sitharaman in her reply to the general discussion on Budget in the Lok Sabha said that Rahul Gandhi is becoming a "doomsday man" for India by constantly insulting constitutional functionaries and creating fake narratives on various issues.
While addressing the media, Congress' Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary said, "Immediately, I stood up there and objected to the comments of Finance Minister and exhorted her that being the Finance Minister of India she should not indulge in such kind of unparliamentary activities inside the House. We took a serious exception to the comments made by the Finance Minister."
Attacking the central government, the Congress leader said, "They are getting rattled when pertinent issues are raised by our party. Instead of giving the appropriate answers to our queries, the government, Finance Minister in particular, has been hurling derogatory remarks against our party leader."
"This is the government which does not honour the workers and leaders of the Opposition party. By riding the roughshod over the Opposition's questions, they have been trampling each and every demand of our party and the common people in general across the nation," he further alleged.
Sitharaman criticised Rahul Gandhi after he had hit out at the government over the three contentious farm laws, saying that the country is now being run by four people with the motto of "Hum do, Hamare Do".
Explaining his claim, Adhir Ranjan said, "How does she explain that the lockdown made India's billionaires 35 per cent richer, while 1.7 lakh people lost their jobs every hour in April 2020. How does she explain that Income entries for India's top 100 billionaires since March 2020 which was enough to give each of 13.8 crores poorest people cheque of over Rs 94,000 crore each."
"Finance Minister's misplaced priorities include tax concession for corporates in the financial year 2019-20 that amounted over Rs 1.4 lakh crores. Instead of creating jobs, they used the money for trimming up their balance sheets," he asserted.
