New Delhi: The Chief Justice of India, NV Ramana, said on Saturday that courts in India still operate from 'dilapidated structures' constructed by the Britishers and give a very unpleasant experience to the people. Ramana was speaking at the foundation event of UP National Law University and new building complex of Allahabad High Court.
CJI said that it is very important to strengthen the judicial infrastructure so it can help in access of justice and give a good experience to the lawyers and litigants. "We failed in providing infrastructure after the British left. That is the reason why I am campaigning for National Judicial Infrastructure Corporation," he said. He said that new designs will be socially inclusive infrastructure where everyone's needs are taken care of.
CJI praised Allahabad High Court for constructing multi-level parking which will create a 'barrier-free citizen atmosphere'. He also appreciated the HC for taking care of the needs of the differently-abled and women.
Ramana has earlier raised the issue of infrastructure and talked about National Judicial Infrastructure Corporation. Infrastructure is one of the major problems faced by the judiciary which causes a lot of hindrances. Earlier, CJI while talking at an event, had also highlighted how some High Courts don't have toilets for women. The buildings are of British era and therefore lacks in various aspects which need to be modified.
