New Delhi: Two days after the clash along the Assam-Mizoram border, the Central government has summoned the Chief Secretaries and Director General of Police (DGPs) of Assam and Mizoram to Delhi on Wednesday. Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla is likely to chair the meeting, which is expected to hammer out a formula to ensure lasting peace along the inter-state borders.
While the Assam government accused Mizoram police of surrounding the team of Assam police and attacking them, the Mizoram government have accused Assam police of forcefully entering the state's territory and attacking the civilians forcing the Mizoram police to retaliate.
Meanwhile, one of the critically injured personnel of Assam Police who had been undergoing treatment at the Silchar Medical College succumbed to his injuries taking the death toll to six. While six Assam police personnel died in the attack, 41 others were injured during the attack on Assam side. There have been skirmishes between the locals from both sides of the border over the last two months.
