New Delhi: West Bengal BJP leader Arun Haldar was appointed as the Deputy Chairman of the National Scheduled Castes (SC) Commission on Wednesday.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, Haldar said that the commission is very seriously looking into the case of alleged rape and murder of three Dalit women in Unnao in Uttar Pradesh and the commission has called for a report from the concerned officials.
"Taking a cognizance of the cases of rape and murder of 3 Dalit women in Uttar Pradesh's Unnao district, the SC Commission has sent a team of officials to Uttar Pradesh and the vice-chairman of the commission will visit Unnao after the report comes," Haldar told ETV Bharat.
"Orders will be given to take strict action against the culprits, as well as the Commission will take full care of the maintenance of this family. The commission will also consult with the Government of Uttar Pradesh to provide all the help to the victims' family," he said.
Notably, former Union Minister of State Vijay Sampla has also become the chairman of the National Scheduled Castes (SC) Commission. The information about both appointments was released by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment on Wednesday after the President's approval.
