New Delhi: The BJP Wednesday criticised the Congress leadership saying the Punjab crisis is the direct outcome of the "extraordinary failure" on the part of its leader Rahul Gandhi.

During a press meet in the capital, the BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra said, "We are all seeing what kind of situation is in Punjab, the political excitement going on there is really worrying because Punjab is a border state. "Having stability in Punjab is very essential and important for national security," he added.

Patra criticised the Congress leadership saying, "One thing stands out in all these subjects and that is the extraordinary failure of Rahul Gandhi and the Congress has tried to hide his failure."

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi talked to Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Navjot Singh Sidhu and assured him to resolve issues.

Addressing the media Channi said, "Whoever is party president, is head of the family. I had called him (Navjot Singh Sidhu) and told him that the party is supreme... I have spoken to him on phone and told him to let's sit, talk it out and resolve the issue."

Today Sidhu in a veiled dig at the new Punjab government stated that he cannot compromise with his ethics, moral authority and pointed out that he didn't want a "repeat of a system of tainted leaders and officers in the state".
