New Delhi: With the Supreme Court lifting over a month-long ban on construction and demolition activities in the Delhi-national capital region (NCR), the work for labourers is yet to pick up the pace.
Labourers, the most affected class of the people involved in the business, told an ETV Bharat team that reached at Labour Chowk in neighbouring Gaziabad, that the work that was stopped on November 04 in view of the increasing pollution in the region, is yet to pick.
"I have been waiting here at Labour Chowk for several days, no one has come to offer us work. It would take time to pick up the pace," he said.
Others, who had gathered at the common point from where people would hire the labourers, also expressed similar views.
Thousands of labourers and other people associated with construction and demolition work in the Delhi-NCR had already started migrating to their villages in states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and other parts of the country as it was becoming difficult for them to survive without work.
The apex court, which had on November 4 stopped construction and demolition in the Delhi-NCR, partially lifted the ban on construction activities and gave its nod to the construction activities between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. The 12-hour permission is based on the recommendations by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
