West Bengal polls: BJP appoints several ministers as Central observers

New Delhi: Focussing on 'Mission 200' for the West Bengal Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has included seven observers. BJP National President JP Nadda has added five Union Ministers and two state ministers who will be campaigning in various parts of the state and give a detailed report on the ground situation.

Union minister for Jal shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, minister for tribal affairs Arjun Munda, union shipping minister Mansukh Mandaviya, tourism and culture minister Pralhad Singh Patel and animal husbandry minister Dr Sanjeev Balyan have been appointed for the task.

Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya and Madhya Pradesh home minister Dr Narottam are also going to be central observers for BJP. The observers have been appointed so that the party can do its SWOT analysis before the polls.

However, an official confirmation on this still awaits.

Party sources said that Gajendra Singh Shekhawat would focus on Lok Sabha seats in Kolkata and Munda will look after East Midnapore and Jhargram areas. Mandaviya has been given the responsibility of Haldia and its adjoining areas and Keshav Maurya would focus on Howrah.

"Prahlad Patel could be asked to focus on areas of North Bengal and Sanjiv Balyan would look after Murshidabad and Nadia," the sources added.

Speculations are also rife that apart from TMC rebel Suvendu Adhikari, Asansol MLA Jitendra Tiwari and Chairman of South Bengal State Transport Corporation Diptangshu Choudhary are expected to join the saffron brigade when Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be visiting the state.

BJP has started working on Shah's Mission 200 strategy to put up a spectacular show in the West Bengal elections. The party had bagged 18 out of 42 seats in 2019 Lok Sabha elections giving neck and neck to the ruling Trinamool Congress.

Earlier, the party had appointed five central observers but now as the tiff between BJP and TMC gets tough, the former has upped its ante.

This is probably for the first time that these many observers have been appointed in the state ahead of polls. All the central observers will be visiting various parliamentary constituencies, submit a ground report and take feedback from people.

These leaders would adopt the door-to-door campaigning strategy and submit a ground reality report to JP Nadda.

"Party has given instructions and the appointed observers will leave for Bengal soon. TMC government will fall this time as people of Bengal want BJP to come to power. People are fed up of TMC and want a change," said a senior BJP leader requesting anonymity.
