Warning issued to Konkan coast and Mumbai, cyclone Nisarga to hit west coast on June 3

It's not even been two weeks since Cyclone Amphan left trails of destruction in West Bengal and Odisha and another cyclone named as Nisarga is already heading towards the coastline of north Maharashtra and South Gujarat. According to the IMD, Nisarga is likely to make landfall between Harihareshwar in Maharashtra’s Raigad and Daman on June 3.

Mumbai: According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Nisarga is likely to make landfall between Harihareshwar in Maharashtra’s Raigad and Daman on June 3. Against this backdrop, all the agencies in the Mumbai Municipal Corporation area have been directed to remain vigilant and all measures are being taken in this regard.

The meteorological department has forecast a low-pressure belt in the Arabian Sea, which could turn into a cyclone. Strong winds teamed with heavy rains are expected during this period.

The Maharashtra government is planning to ensure that normal life is not affected by this natural phenomenon. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray discussed the matter with Union Home Minister Amit Shah through video conference. Citizens in the area where the cyclone is expected to strike have been instructed to stay alert. In addition to this, the fishermen have been warned against venturing into the sea.

The cyclone will hit Mumbai, suburbs, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and other districts. The disaster management department has been alerted as well.

Municipal Commissioner has appealed to the big industrial establishments and petrochemical companies in Mumbai to take appropriate measures to keep their systems and materials safe. All the hospitals in Mumbai should take care that the generators are operational and that the power supply should be kept uninterrupted. The administration has also requested the citizens to not believe in rumours.

The government has sent two NDRF teams to Alibaug. One of them is in Alibaug and one has been sent to Shrivardhan. Considering the potential danger of cyclone, six NDRF units have been deployed from Mumbai to Sindhudurg in Konkan.

The Meteorological Department and the Central Government's Advisory Ministry Control Room have provided information on the low-pressure belt in the Arabian Sea and the resulting cyclones.

As a result, the state government has issued alert notices in Mumbai, Sindhudurg, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Palghar, Mumbai suburbs and other areas. The cyclone, which is expected to form in the Arabian Sea, is expected to hit the southeastern and mid-eastern parts of Mumbai.

The situation in the Arabian Sea is constantly being monitored by Coast Guard Dornier aircraft as well as Chetak helicopters. The Navy's Sea King helicopters are currently monitoring the Arabian Sea.

Along with this, the Navy has deployed five Gemini boats in the Arabian Sea for help and as per the instructions of the state government, the required help will be provided by the Navy.

The administration has ordered a curfew in the entire district tomorrow (Wednesday) because of the cyclone threat. District Collector Laxmi Narayan Mishra has issued the relevant order under Section 34 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.

The Indian Meteorological Department has forecast a cyclone on the west coast of the district. In order to avoid any loss, people have been ordered not to go out on June 3 for any reason other than essential services.

According to District Supply Officer Madhukar Bodke, District Collector Nidhi Chaudhary has ordered that fair price food shops to remain closed in Raigad on June 3.

Following necessary precautions to be taken to stay safe during cyclonic conditions:

1) Fishermen and other persons should not go into the sea.

2) On June 3, 2020, if your home is safe and you are sure that water will not enter the house due to heavy rains, you should stay safe in the house. Don't move out of the house.

3) If your house is in a dilapidated condition or in a rough condition, immediately move to a higher or a safer place with the necessary items.

4) Stay away from such objects like electricity poles, wires, trees around the house if they are likely to fall.

5) Move your livestock and other pets to a safe place in advance.

6) Kerosene powered lanterns, batteries, gas lamps, stoves, caskets, etc. should be available for lighting and cooking.

7) Carry a radio nearby to understand the warnings received from the weather department. For this, some extra batteries should be kept handy.

8) Keep food, drinking water and medicines with you.

9) Since your life is more important than your income, you should give priority to your life first.

10) Purified drinking water should be used. For eg, drink boiled water. Mix Mediclor in water.

11) Fishermen should take appropriate measures to keep their boats safe so that they are not damaged.

12) People living along the coast and rivers should be careful to avoid the combined impact of heavy rains and the cyclone.

13) Safe measures should be taken as per the instructions of Gram Kritidal and as per the order of District Administration.

14) At present, citizens who have been asked to home quarantine in the district should be careful and not mix with each other while sending people to a safe place on the amidst the warning of the cyclone.
