Varanasi to host four-day Northeast festival from Nov 23

A four-day 'Destination Northeast' festival will be held in Varanasi from November 23. The festival will be held in the important site of Hindu pilgrimage to familiarise the people with the rich unexplored potential and opportunities available in the northeast region.

New Delhi: A four-day 'Destination Northeast' festival will be held in Varanasi from November 23 to familiarise the people with the rich, unexplored potential and opportunities available in the region.

This festival will be a sequel to the 'Destination Northeast' series begun about three years ago, as part of which, such festivals have already been held in places like Chandigarh and Delhi.

Union Minister for Development of the North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jitendra Singh said that this is an attempt to bring the rest of the country close to Northeast.

"This four-day long Northeast festival will witness cultural programmes, B2B conferences, traditional food festival, among other attractions," said Singh.

He further said that his government has been giving much more attention towards the northeast since the very first day in office.

"One Union Minister visits northeast every fortnight. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given top most priority to the development of Northeast," said Singh adding that almost all the states in Northeast have now been connected to railways.

It is to be noted that in order to increase the footfall of visitors at the festival, a variety of exciting programmes have also been lined up by the organizers.

Body:This is going to be the first time that this Hindi heartland will be witnessing such festival showcasing the rich culture and traditions of the northeastern region.

Talking to a selected group of reporters in New Delhi on Thursday, DoNER Minister Dr Jitendra Singh said that this is an attempt to bring the rest of the country close to Northeast.

"This four day long Northeast festival will witness cultural programmes, B2B conferences, traditional food festival, among other attractions," said Singh.

Singh said that his government since the very first day in office, has been giving much more attention towards northeast.

"One union minister is visiting northeast on every fortnight. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given top most priority for the development of Northeast," said Singh adding "almost all the states in Northeast have now been connected with railways. The region has been connected by air as well."


Conclusion:Union Ministers as well as renowned artists from India's film industry will be attending the festival.

DoNER Minister Singh said that similar type of programme showcasing Northeast will be organised across India.
