Panic prevailed Greater Noida after a police inspector allegedly shot himself after firing at his son. Cops said that father and son were locked in bitter disputes due to family issues and were often engaged in fight.

Greater Noida: A retired Police Inspector allegedly shot himself dead after shooting at his son following an argument with him in Escort Colony, said police on Wednesday.
His son is admitted to a hospital after he was injured in his chest and a leg. His condition is said to be critical.

The incident reportedly happened near Railway Road under Dadri Police Station Limits, triggering panic in the area. Initial investigation suggests that the father and son were at loggerheads on family issues. The argument between the two got flared up and took an ugly turn on Wednesday, prompting the police officer to fire at his son.

"We are being told by his neighbours that the retired cop was addicted to liquor. There were arguments between them quite often. He first shot his son with his licensed revolver, then shot himself and died on spot. Son is admitted at the hospital," Vishal Pandey, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Greater Noida told reporters.

Pandey added, "We have sent the body for post-mortem and the matter is being investigated. It's too early to comment anything now. The detailed probe will reveal the truth."

Further investigation is underway, police said.
