Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh): Ignoring the cyber threats, a 34-year-old man hailing from Sangam city took to a 'gay website' to date a 20-year-old man and suffered a loss of Rs 3,63,849 which he saved for the construction of the house.
According to reports, Rajeev Srivastava, got in touch with Rajnish Yadav, a 20-year-old B.Com student through a homosexual dating site called- PlanetRomeo.
Yadav, who hails from Uttar Pradesh's Jaunpur, offered Srivastava to visit his hometown. According to IG KP Singh, Prayagraj range, Yadav stole his credit, debit cards and the SIM cards associated with it and created Unified Payments Interface (UPI) ids. When the complainant visited the bank, he came to know that Rs 3,63,849 was withdrawn from his account.
"We traced the fraudster through phone call tracking system on Friday and recovered Rs 1,50,000 from the accused. Yadav also purchased a motorcycle and other electronic gadgets from the stolen money", said Singh while speaking to ETV Bharat.
Meanwhile, the accused has been arrested by the sleuths and will be sent for police custody today, said IG Pryagraj range.
1 in 2 Indians afraid of online dating: Survey
A survey conducted by the Consumer Security Mindset Report suggests that most Indians feel secure while ordering food online but close to half of those surveyed were afraid of their online activities when it comes to dating.
The report found that over three quarters (78 per cent) of Indian respondents admitted to being most concerned about their financial data, such as credit card or banking details, being stolen, while 74 per cent were concerned that their personal information, such as birthday or address, could get hacked.
