New Delhi: Congress party, on Wednesday, hit out at BJP-led Central Government for "only aiding corporates' interest", while demanding a repeal of the three farm laws as a "New year's gift" to the farmers.
While addressing a press conference, Haryana Congress Chief Kumari Selja said, "The Central Government is meeting the farmer leaders today but still it is not ready to compromise. The government should accept the demands of farmers, these black laws should be withdrawn. Central Government should take a new beginning by withdrawing these laws on New Year."
In the context of Haryana, she said, "People are losing faith in BJP. 10 farmers have already lost their lives. Haryana Government should give compensation to their families. In fact, the Chief Minister should take a delegation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make him understand the ground situation."
The comments come on the day of the sixth round of talks between Farmer Unions and Central Government, amid protests against the three farm laws.
Another Congress leader and Uttrakhand state unit Chief Pritam Singh alleged that on one side, the Government calls farmers for talks, while on the other side, it refuses to take back the three laws.
He also said that the Government is trying to give profit to the corporates by providing them a safeguard through this law. "It seems that the BJP government had an agreement with the corporates before making these bills. This is the reason why these corporates have built their godowns on the borders of Punjab and Haryana," he added.

On Wednesday, Union Minister Rajnath Singh said during an interview that he himself, as well as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was "pained" with the protest of farmers. He even urged the farmers to give these laws a chance of 2 years.
When asked over the matter, Selja replied, "He had to say this because everyone knows the stubbornness of PM Modi is not acceptable to this country. In such a situation, all the ministers or other leaders of the party have to say something which is opposite to the ground situation. But he should have said that we will talk to the farmers, ask them and after that, we will implement these laws."
