Chennai: A group of 21 sugarcane farm labourers from Prakasam district from Andhra Pradesh is stuck in Pudukkottai district of Tamil Nadu amid the lockdown.
In the month of February, around 200 labourers from Prakasam came to Tamil Nadu for sugarcane harvesting in Kurumbur Sugar mill near Aranthangi in Pudukkottai district. While most of them fled back home within a month, 21 labourers from the group stayed back for work.

With a nationwide lockdown being implemented in March, the labourers were sheltered in a private marriage hall lacking basic facilities. Despite repeated efforts, the government officials are yet to facilitate the transportation of the labourers to their hometown.
"We'll try to arrange the transport facilities within couple of days and will ensure the safe journey," the revenue department officials said.
