New Delhi: The interim Congress president Sonia Gandhi rejected the resignation of Shakti Singh Gohil, the senior Congress leader and in-charge of Bihar. He will continue to be the Congress in-charge in Bihar.
Gohil had tendered his resignation in June taking the moral responsibility of party's debacle in the Lok Sabha elections.
Talking to ETV Bharat, Gohil said that the party has done a lot for him and now he wanted to work as a worker for the party.
"I had resigned following the general elections but it was not accepted by the party. Sonia Gandhi ji has once again shown her faith in me and asked me to continue as the party's in-charge in Bihar," said Gohil.
He further said that the Congress was once a stronghold of Bihar and the party will regain its status in the state.
"Next year there is assembly election, we will take out our policies to the people and I hope that the Congress will soon be in a very strong position in Bihar," added Gohil.
On being asked that who will be the Chief Ministerial candidate of Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance), to this he replied that the election is still a year ahead so I would not like to comment on it now.
"I do not take any decision alone. When the time comes I will tell the desire of party workers to the top leadership subsequently, the decision will be made on the CM candidate," said Gohil.
It is to be noted that Gohil was sent to Bihar in January 2018 as the party in-charge for the 2019 elections. He was instrumental in strengthening an alliance with the RJD making the Congress the second most powerful party in the Grand Alliance.
