Srinagar: A top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant from Pakistan and his local associate were killed during Barzulla gunfight, according to Dilbag Singh, Director General of Police, DGP, Jammu and Kashmir. He also added that 75 anti-militancy operations were carried out killing 180 militants in 2020.
"The slain foreign militant has been identified as Saifullah from Pakistan. He was involved in a series of attacks on security forces including the recent attacks of Nowgam, Chadoora and Kandizaal, Pampore," said DGP Singh.
Addressing a press conference at police control room in Srinagar, DGP added that Saifullah's aide is a resident of South Kashmir and details are yet to be collected to ascertain his identity.
"All the operations against militants conducted this year were clean and conducted professionally. Today's operation was also clean and successful. Barring one operation at Batamaloo Srinagar, in which one woman got killed in crossfire, all operations are being conducted clean by the security forces," he said.

The DGP said "this year eight gunfights took place in the city in which 18 militants including a top Hizbul Mujahideen commander were killed. Whenever any military outfit tries to establish its base in Srinagar, we successfully corner the militant with the help of our intelligence and other sources."
While responding to a question on how many militants are active in the city, the DGP said, "At present only one militant is active in the city who is involved in a couple of attacks. We will bring him to justice very soon."He further added that 19 policemen, 21 CRPF and 15 soldiers were martyred.
Responding to a question on the surrender policy of militants, the DGP said that 26 youngsters who joined militancy reunited with their families with the help of parents and police. However, there is no rehabilitation policy for those who quit militancy, he added.
