SC to hear PIL on threat of corona in animals on Monday

The SC will hear PIL on the threat of novel coronavirus in animals on Monday. The CJI said that as per their information the animals could not contract the infection and asked the petitioner to amend his petition explaining the issue and argue again.

New Delhi: The Supreme court bench led by the Chief Justice of India SA Bobde will hear the PIL over supply of food to Zoos and threat of animals contracting the corona disease on Monday.

The CJI said that as per their information the animals could not contract the infection and asked the petitioner to amend his petition explaining the issue and argue again on Monday.

The petitioner contended that the Delhi Zoo has users essential services Act to get food supply but information is not available for other zoos. Raising the issue of corona virus disease in animal, the petitioner cited the incident of Bronx Zoo in US where a tiger was reported as corona virus positive.

Hyderabad zoo also has sent a sample for testing.

On being said by the court that as per their information the animals could not contract the corona, the petitioner said that according to the information the animals can't die of corona but they can get the virus from the humans and transmit further.

The petitioner emphasized the need for house doctors and medical treatment for wildlife in the Zoos. The court adjourned the matter for hearing on Monday.
