New Delhi: The Supreme court on Friday asked the Maharashtra government to file the status report of the investigation against the Palghar lynching incident and adjourned the matter for hearing after 4 weeks.
The bench was hearing a petition which sought action against the police for their alleged complacency in the Palghar lynching of sadhus and contended that they failed in using any power available to them leading to failure of administration amidst lockdown.
The bench said that Crime Investigation Department (CID) is already investigating the matter and it comes under the ADG Maharashtra.
It asked the petitioner to serve a copy to Maharashtra's counsel and adjourned the matter to be heard again after 4 weeks when Maharashtra submits its reply.
There was also a PIL listed today which sought specific law on the lynching in the wake of Palghar incident, which the court refused to entertain saying that there is already a judgement on it and people are aware of it, the law will take its own course.
