Test film stars for drugs: MP minister to Javadekar

A Madhya Pradesh minister has written to the Centre demanding that film actors be subject to dope tests like is the case with sportspersons.

MP Medical Education Minister Vishvas Sarang wrote to Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar and expressed concern over news reports of "drug parties" involving film stars, adding such reports were also coming up in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case.

"Like sportspersons, a rule should be enacted for the dope test of film stars. Any kind of drug parties should be banned. The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) should conduct dope tests on film stars and people associated with the movie industry from time to time," the minister said in his letter to Javadekar.

"Those found guilty should be given two year-jail terms as well as a life ban on working in the film industry," Sarang said.

With the CBI already investigating the case, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has also pitched in after the drugs angle came up in the case. The NCB had registered a case against Rhea Chakraborty and others on 26th August but according to the latest reports, the agency has now filed a criminal case as well.

The NCB is investigating the drug angle in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case. The NCB has also identified two men, Farookh Sheikh alias Farookh Batata and Bakul Chandalia, who are known for supplying drugs in the Bollywood circle.

The NCB got involved in the Sushant Singh Rajput case after Rhea Chakraborty's WhatsApp chats with Samuel Miranda, Jaya Saha and Gaurav Arya were released by the Enforcement Directorate.

Rhea's parents reach DRDO guest house for questioning by CBI

Mumbai: Actress Rhea Chakraborty's parents arrived at the DRDO guest house here on Tuesday for questioning by the CBI in connection with the case of death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, a police official said.

This is the first time that Chakraborty's parents are being questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the case.

"Her father Indranjit Chakraborty and mother Sandhya Chakraborty reached the DRDO guest house in suburban Kalina, where the probe team is stationed, around 11 am in a car which was escorted by a police vehicle," the official said.

"Rhea Chakraborty and her parents are among those named in the FIR registered by Patna Police for allegedly abetting the actor's suicide and misappropriating his money," he said.

The actress and her brother Showik Chakraborty have not been called by the probing team on Tuesday so far.

She was grilled for around 35 hours over the last four days while her brother was quizzed for the last five days.

Rajput (34) was found hanging in his apartment in suburban Bandra on June 14 following which the Mumbai Police registered a case of accidental death.

The late filmstar's father subsequently filed a police complaint in Patna, accusing Rhea Chakraborty and her family of abetting Rajput's suicide and misappropriating his money.

The Supreme Court last week upheld the transfer of the FIR lodged in Patna to the CBI.
